DUVAL

Multi Generational Living

As Austin continues to grow, opportunities to build new homes within the city are increasingly rare. For the Duval clients, their historic property offered a unique solution: enough space to add a second residence in the backyard, allowing their children to live on the same family compound while still enjoying their privacy.

Designing a new home in a protected historic neighborhood came with meaningful constraints—including mature, protected pecan trees and an existing garage that needed to remain. Architect Richard Hughes approached the challenge with creativity and care, crafting a design that met the neighborhood requirements while maximizing the site’s potential.

Inside, Salt Design brought a classic, clean aesthetic that feels both timeless and welcoming—bright walls, abundant natural light, and warm wood accents that complement the character of the surrounding homes. Beyond its beauty, the home was built for comfort and performance, featuring two independent variable-speed HVAC systems, hybrid washer-dryers, ZIP-R sheathing, spray-foam insulation, and high-quality windows. Even in the peak of Texas summer, the home is designed to stay efficient, quiet, and comfortable.

We’re honored to have helped bring this multi-generational vision to life, and we hope the Duval family enjoys their new home for many years to come.
